Course Introduction

Course Overview Q1: Could you introduce your courses? (Debate / Writing)

A1: Ascent’s debate program is built around three core components: topic exploration, debate technique instruction, and live debate practice.First, instructors guide students through brainstorming sessions on current events and social issues not just memorizing vocabulary or others’ opinions, but reflecting from personal experience to form original, evidence-based arguments. Next, we introduce structured debate techniques, helping students gradually master the flow and purpose of each debate stage. We also train students to analyze stakeholder perspectives and practice empathy through role reversal. Finally, students engage in live debate exercises every class, gaining fluency in debate formats and receiving personalized feedback from instructors.

We also emphasize teamwork and stage presence. Students take turns presenting ideas, ensuring every child has the chance to speak and be seen. Each semester includes internal and external competitions to build real-world experience.

Our writing program also follows three stages: text analysis, writing technique instruction, and writing practice. We focus on applying argumentative structure and thesis development to analyze texts, respond to issues, and produce written work. The goal is to help students read with logical clarity and express their ideas in structured, coherent writing. This course equips students with essential writing tools and inspires deeper thinking and focused expression.

Q2:How is Ascent different from other tutoring centers?

A2:Ascent stands apart in several key ways:

  • Deep Critical Thinking: We prioritize comprehension and original argumentation over rote memorization. Students learn to build their own perspectives and reasoning—not just repeat others’ ideas.

  • Professionally Trained Instructors / Low Student-Teacher Ratio: All instructors undergo Ascent’s internal training. We host regular workshops to expand teaching vision and refine pedagogy. Our classes maintain a ratio below 1:6, averaging 1:4.5, ensuring high-quality interaction and personalized guidance.

  • Structured Curriculum & Learning Goals: Every course follows a clear framework. Students develop transferable skills in logic, analysis, critique, and argument construction—often yielding strong external results beyond debate itself.

  • Mentorship & Global Awareness: Our instructors are not just teachers—they’re role models. We care deeply about guiding students through global issues and helping them grow into informed global citizens.
