Elvis from VIS International Experimental Education officially began his debate journey this August by joining Ascent’s Elite Debate Program.After just two months of intensive training, he stepped into his very first international-level debate tournament and walked away with an impressive three consecutive wins.Elvis proved that true breakthroughs aren’t measured by trophies, but by the courage to step onto the stage, win your first match, and keep pushing forward.

Elvis’s passion for debate began during Ascent’s summer Showcase.Despite only attending two weeks of summer classes, he signed up for his first debate competition, the Ascent Showcase.In that match, he faced each opponent with focus and determination.Though his grasp of techniques and rules was still developing and the results weren’t ideal, the experience became a powerful motivator.He began refining his skills with renewed drive, determined to earn his first victory.

Soon after, he joined the Elite Debate Program.Following over a month of rigorous training and strategic refinement, Elvis entered his first international tournament at TAS.

Coach Jonas witnessed his transformation firsthand from struggling to identify opponents’ arguments and weaknesses, to grasping the essence of debate, spotting rebuttal angles, and adjusting strategies with his teammates.Even when he and his first-time teammate Kenneth suffered three straight losses in their debut, they didn’t give up.They kept discussing, revising, and challenging themselves with their coach and peers.Eventually, they not only secured their first win—they went on to claim three victories in a row.
