English Debate
English debate courses to build critical thinking, leadership, and persuasive speaking skills.
English Debate
English Debate trains students "what to say" and "how to say it". The core is to convince the audience through logical reasoning and manners. Complementing public speaking skills, students who are able to express themselves in a clear, logical, and lively manner will be able to excel in group discussions, interviews, and any other situation that requires oral presentation.
Unlike rote memorization, our teaching method is interactive and experiential, guiding students to understand the context, cause and effect of social issues, thus training students' critical thinking skills and developing them into future leaders with conversational skills.
Each debate class at Ascent has three elements: "Debate Topic Exploration", "Debate Skills Introduction" and "Debate Practice".
Ascent’s English Debate Programs focus on the following learning objectives:
-Comprehending logical reasoning skills
-Fostering the ability to structure and express arguments
-Analytical and evaluating skills
-Acquiring the ability to rebut and assess impact
-Establishing the key concepts and structures of different forms of English debates
-Familiarizing with English debate and competitions
Logic Training, Impromptu Debate, and Public Forum (PF) are the three types of regular English debate programs offered by Ascent. Our programs are designed according to the format of PF for students of different levels and ages.
In addition to the three programs listed above, we can also provide different training such as Policy Debate and World Schools Debate, etc. Parents or students who are interested are welcome to call us for more information.

Introduction to Debate
This class is ideal for students who are new to debate or need a refresher about the principles of persuasion. This debate course will start with impromptu debates on fun topics to get students excited and includes activities to help students remember key concepts and ideas. As the course progresses, students will learn the structure for Public Forum (PF) debate, which is the most popular debate style in the United States for high school students, and is now popular among middle schools as well. PF style is oriented toward a “lay” audience to ensure that they can communicate and persuade anyone, regardless of whether they are familiar with the topic. The topic changes periodically, so students can learn a wide array of knowledge about the world and develop the ability to defend both sides of each issue.
