This class will introduce students to the basics of public speaking and the different styles of speeches. Public speaking is becoming an essential skill for the future. This course will ensure that all students have the ability to clearly communicate their position in an exciting and memorable fashion. Presentation skills will be heavily emphasized in this course, which requires students to learn the fundamentals of engaging an audience.

Goals

• Students understand the fundamentals of audience engagement and presentation skills
• Each speech style and structure can be prepared
• High proficiency in preparing at least one speaking style by the end of the course

Curriculum

• Long form persuasive speech writing will teach students how to prepare, memorize, and present a ten minute speech 
• Impromptu speaking will teach students to organize and deliver a speech with limited to no preparation time
• Extemporaneous Speaking will teach students how to prepare, memorize, and deliver in-depth analytical speeches within half an hour
